The Victims of Crime Service supports people to deal with personal and possible problems associated with the impact of crime, to permit them to regain handle of their lives. The PPS work in partnership with a range of State, community, private and optional organizations to deliver this service for the betterment of the Tasmanian community. Prison facilities are located at Risdon Vale, Hobart, and Launceston. These facilities yield care and custody, at various levels of security, for prisoners and people remanded in custody. Currently the PPS is occupied through a Change Program that concentrates on continual improvement, development of processes, and implementation of cultural change. This means that all PPS prison facilities are now smoke free. Additionally, there is no smoking anywhere on prison property. The Alcohol and Drug Treatment Unit offers prisoners a liven program which addresses the biological, psychological and social triggers of an individual’s addictive behavior to assist address drug and alcohol use. The Apsley unit, which was built as part of the recent redevelopment at the prison, was found to be ideally capable to the operation of a residential alcohol and drug treatment program. The Artists with Conviction exhibition is an annual event providing prisoners within PPS facilities, as healthy as offenders serving orders with Community Corrections, with the opportunity to display their works of art and written pieces in the community.
